2025 Cancellation Frequently Asked Questions
Why was the event canceled?
The 2025 edition was canceled due to insufficient participants to allow the event to be held in responsible, safe conditions, and consistent with the standards we have set for ourselves for the past 16 years.
Why this decision now?
We waited as long as possible, while maintaining active recovery efforts. In early June, an information campaign was sent to more than 80 French and 40 international press contacts. It failed to reverse the trend. Registrations remained insufficient to ensure the event could be held under acceptable conditions.
Did you try other options before canceling?
Yes. We tried until the very end to keep the event going: direct contact with runners, media outreach to 120 press contacts in June, and last-minute searches for institutional and financial partners. But these efforts weren’t enough to reverse the trend.
Why is there no immediate refund?
Atlas Quest is entirely funded by registrations, in a region with no fixed infrastructure, no main sponsor, and no recurring subsidies. The 2025 budget was used to cover communications and marketing, representation, logistics, human resources, and technical commitments already underway. Our cash flow, weakened by previous cancellations (Covid 2020-2021, earthquake 2023), did not allow for the creation of a reserve. Therefore, we currently do not have the necessary funds to initiate immediate reimbursements.
What are you going to propose concretely?
Our goal is to develop a realistic and sustainable solution for each registrant. This could take several forms: deferral of registration, refund, or other options, depending on the viable options available in the fall term. Our goal is to go beyond the strict interpretation of the regulations that bind us, with the options offered by a 2026 relaunch.
Is the event definitely stopped?
No. The cancellation of 2025 is not a definitive end to Atlas Qest. Carrying out this edition with too few participants and therefore too few financial resources was not possible, moreover it would have mobilized all our human and logistical resources, placed the association in an untenable budgetary situation and annihilated our capacity to build a solution for the future. At the same time, we would have missed critical deadlines on the international trail running scene. We have therefore decided to devote the second half of 2025 to rebuilding the event, in order to offer a realistic, sustained edition in 2026, in line with our vision.
Can I keep my registration for 2026?
Yes, this is actually the option we will offer you as a priority, as soon as we can confirm it by end-October. To date, it seems to us to be the simplest to implement, the most realistic, and also the most supportive.
If you can, and if you wish, maintaining your registration is the most stress-free and concrete way to support the reconstruction of the project.
Can I activate my cancellation insurance?
No, the medical cancellation insurance is suspended as of August 1, 2025.
Can I take legal action?
All registrants remain free to assert their rights. We understand that this situation raises legitimate questions. Our team has consistently supported this event for sixteen years, and we have always assumed our responsibilities. Our priority is to find a fair and realistic solution for each registrant, within a transparent and respectful framework. To this end, we favor direct, open, and honest dialogue through a dedicated email address: info2025@trail-atlasquest.com
We will be able to establish the exact situation by the end of October, in particular depending on the outcome of ongoing discussions with partners. Our goal is to be, at a minimum, compliant with our regulations, while going as far as possible in a responsible compensation approach. Any possible assessment of damages or claims can only be based on the information available at that time.
